Gyrecraft deriva dalla composizione di due parole: corrente marina e arte
Questo progetto dello studio Swine esplora l’arte marina, esistente in ogni cultura cstiera o isolana intorno al mondo, ognuna con una sua identità ben definita, che sfrutta ciò che il mare fornisce. Molti di questi artefatti nascono proprio a bordo delle barche, durante viaggi lubghi come passatempo o riparazioni vitali nel mare.
Studio Swine ha affrontato un viaggio nautico lungo 1000 miglia, raccogliendo pezzi di plastica lungo il tragitto dalle Azzorre alle Canarie, passando per le correnti dell’ Atlantico, portando con se l’ Estrusore Solare, un macchinario ad energia solare, da loro progettato che permette di sciogliere ed espellere la plastica marina.
L’ intento della collezione Gyrecraft è quello di sfruttare la plastica marina rendendola un materiale prezioso, che ricorda il corallo o il guschio di una tartaruga .
I 5 pezzi della collezione rappresetano le correnti dei 5 maggiori Oceani.

This project by Studio Swine is an exploration into maritime crafts which exists in every coastal or island culture around the world each with its own unique identity, utilising what the sea provides. Many of these crafts took place onboard boats during long voyages as a way of making vital repairs or passing the time at sea.
Studio Swine went on a journey of 1000 nautical miles collecting plastic on the way from Azores to the Canaries through the North Atlantic Gyre with the Solar Extruder; a machine they designed and built which melts and extrudes sea plastic using the Sun.
In the swirling gyre, most of the plastics have broken down into tiny fragments which are spread over massive stretches of the Ocean. Due to their size, they are incredibly difficult to recover in any large quantity making this once disposable material very precious.
In the Gyrecraft collection Studio Swine uses sea plastic as a valuable and desirable material reminiscent of turtle shell and corals. The 5 objects represent the 5 major Ocean gyres.
