The Harry Smith’s paper airplane collection is a selection of 25 prints of Harry Smith’s paper airplane collection, photographed by Jason Fulford and published by Anthology Film Archives, now available in an open edition. The paper airplane is an object that we all know and love but that no one usually collects. We prefers to bend them, make them fly and abandon them whether they landed. Let’s assume that all this happens in Manhattan in the 60 ‘and 70’ and that there is an artist with the desire to collect them in a fun collection of “folk art”. Harry Smith, a versatile artist of the beat generation, has collected all paper airplanes abandoned in the streets of Manhattan between 1961 and 1983. With the survivors 251 pieces was made a book, photographed by Jason Fulford. All images capture our kid mood, and you find yourself as curious observers, trying to find a story about who made it and play with them at that time in Manhattan.
L’ aeroplanino di carta é un oggetto che tutti conosciamo e amiamo ma che nessuno solitamente colleziona. Si preferisce piegarli, farli volare e abbandonarli al loro destino. Mettiamo caso che tutto questo accada a Manhattan negli anni 60’ e 70’ e che ci sia un artista con la voglia di raccoglierli in una divertente collezione di “arte popolare”. Harry Smith, poliedrico artista della generazione beat, ha raccolto tutti gli aeroplanini di carta abbandonati nelle vie di Manhattan tra il 1961 e il 1983. Con i superstiti 251 pezzi é stata fatta una pubblicazione, grazie all’ intervento del fotografo Jason Fulford. Nasce così Paper Airplanes: “The Collections of Harry Smiths, catalogue raisonné, volume 1″, edito da J&L Books e Anthology Film Archives Tutte le immagini catturano il nostro animo bambino, e ci si ritrova curiosi osservatori dei dettagli nascosti sulle varie carte utilizzate , cercando dalla carta di far riemergere possibili storie legate a chi ha costruito e ha giocato con questi piccoli oggetti.
